Calculate from the complete pack

A small difference can be ordinary display rounding. The selected Andrex pack costs an observed £5.95 for 1710 declared average sheets. The unrounded calculation is approximately £0.347953 per 100 sheets, which displays as £0.35 at two decimal places. The package charge remains 595 pence; the rounded unit rate is not a new checkout price.

Round the display,last

Our basket multiplies integer package pence by whole purchase quantities. It does not multiply a rounded per-100-sheet rate back by the pack’s total. Doing that with £0.35 would produce a different amount and quietly introduce a rounding error. Unit rates are comparison displays; actual selected pack charges are the purchase arithmetic inputs.

Check the basis before blaming rounding

A larger disagreement needs a denominator check. Confirm whether the retailer means per roll, per 100 sheets, per box or per item, and whether a loyalty or multi-buy condition is active. For the £2.50 kitchen pack, the declared total is 200 sheets. For the £1.45 tissue box,it is 96. Do not swap those totals between records.

Keep the charge in pence

If the exact pack price or quantity has changed, update the whole record before recalculating. Preserve the old observation date rather than calling the difference a guaranteed saving. Unsupported dimensions or unknown package counts stay unresolved, and the cost ledger does not turn a rounded rate into a claim about performance or household consumption.
