The pack price is only one line
You can compare the pack quote, but you cannot claim the lowest delivered cost from that quote alone. Tesco’s grocery terms separate delivery from item prices and describe a small-basket charge when the confirmed basket is below the applicable minimum. Postcode, slot, collection choices and the final order can change the transaction you actually pay for.
Keep each retailer transaction separate
Our £9.90 three-item arithmetic example spans Tesco and Waitrose. It is not a basket that either retailer has promised to deliver together. Adding one generic delivery fee would hide a second transaction and possibly different minimum-order rules. Keep separate ledgers when placing separate retailer orders, then compare their actual final charges.
Check the real basket and slot
The inspected Waitrose online terms require £40 minimum spend for ordinary delivery or collection, with a separate exception for orders containing only specified made-to-order Entertaining collection food. Delivery charges apply;selected-store Click & Collect is stated free. Requirements can change at checkout. The two selected paper items total only £3.95,so they do not by themselves meet that ordinary online minimum.
Do not forecast availability
If a charge is not known, save the item comparison but leave the delivered total unresolved. Do not increase a paper order merely to reach an assumed threshold without checking the current terms and your own need. The buying decision should include storage, extra packages and actual fees, not a claim that one public shelf price is always cheapest to your door.
